Leipzig, it is said, is the up-and-coming city in Germany / A city that not only has an interesting history and wonderfully rich cultural past, it is also one of the most exciting places in the world of the present / Leipzig is the city where the political change in the German Democratic Republic started in 1989, it is the city where Richard Wagner was born and where Johann Sebastian Bach has written his masterworks / Nowadays, the city is not only the most important economic center in eastern Germany, it is also the city with one of the most vibrant art scenes in Europe //

For me Leipzig is the city, where I was born and where I lived almost all my life / In these recordings I try to show what Leipzig means to me, and what makes it special beyond the advertising slogans //

08.47 / February 11, 2017 / Friedhof, Hainkirche St. Vinzenz / 51°23’‘2.286’‘N, 12°16’0.687’‘E / When I was child I visited this graveyard with my mother to take care of the grave of her mother / Now my mother is buried in the same graveyard / I don’t come here very often, usually only twice a year, on my mother’s birthday and on the day of her death / Some other relatives of mine also rest in this graveyard: the parents of my grandmother and her brother / I really do not come here often, but if I were to name a place that means 'Heimat' to me, it would be this graveyard / It’s difficult to translate the German term 'Heimat' – it is the place you come from and would call “home”, and also the feelings and memories you carry within you when you think about this place / When I was there this morning, it snowed //
